Defense and Military Lubricants Engineered for Mission-Critical Reliability
MIL-spec PPE fluids, radiation-resistant fluids, connector lubricants, traction fluids, and optical fluids for defense systems and military equipment.
Defense hardware has to work on demand after years in storage, in desert heat or arctic cold, under salt spray and constant vibration, and often far from any maintenance crew. A lubricant that thickens, evaporates, or corrodes a contact can take a system out of service. SantoLubes polyphenyl ether (PPE) fluids bring thermal stability up to 450°C (840°F), chemical inertness, radiation resistance, and very low volatility in a single chemistry. Certain PPE products meet U.S. Air Force military specification MIL-L-87100.
Our defense portfolio includes SantoVac® and SantoLubes® PPE fluids, SantoRad™ radiation-resistant fluids, ACCL® connector lubricants, SantoTrac® traction fluids, and SantoLight™ optical fluids. SantoLubes formulations are OEM-approved by leading aerospace and defense manufacturers and produced under an ISO 9001:2015 quality system with full batch traceability.

Why Defense Programs Specify PPE Chemistry
Most lubricants are good at one or two things. A defense system often needs all of them at once: heat resistance, low volatility in sealed housings, chemical and radiation stability, and a long service life between maintenance windows that may never come. Conventional oils reach for additives to cover those gaps, and the additives wear out.
PPE fluids carry those properties in the base chemistry itself. That is why PPE has decades of service history in aerospace and defense hardware, and why one PPE fluid can often replace several conventional products in a single system. Fewer fluids means fewer qualifications, simpler logistics, and less risk of the wrong product in the wrong place.

FAQ
Answers to common questions about SantoLubes technologies in defense and military applications.
What lubricants are used in defense and military systems?
Defense systems use high-temperature fluids for sealed hardware and actuators, radiation-resistant fluids for naval and space systems, connector lubricants for avionics and mission electronics, traction fluids for power drives, and optical fluids for electro-optical sensors. SantoLubes covers these needs with SantoVac® and SantoLubes® PPE fluids, SantoRad™, ACCL®, SantoTrac®, and SantoLight™ technologies.
Do SantoLubes products meet military specifications?
Yes. Certain SantoLubes PPE products, including SantoVac® 5 PPE, SantoLubes® OS-124, and OS-750, meet U.S. Air Force military specification MIL-L-87100. All products are manufactured under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system (Certificate QSR-675) with full batch traceability. Contact our team for certified specifications and qualification documentation.
Can SantoLubes fluids handle radiation in defense and naval systems?
Yes. SantoRad™ 7 and SantoRad™ 12 are PPE fluids that resist ionizing radiation up to 10¹¹ ergs/gram. They keep their viscosity and film strength where hydrocarbon lubricants break down, thicken, and gel. Defense and naval systems are listed applications for SantoRad™.
How does ACCL® protect military electronics from vibration?
Vibration moves mated contacts against each other, wearing through plating and building up insulating oxide. ACCL® keeps a stable 15–20 micron PPE film between the surfaces that reduces that wear and keeps out oxygen, while staying out of the way at the actual metal-to-metal contact points. The result is low, stable contact resistance and fewer intermittent faults.
Are SantoLubes defense lubricants PFAS-free?
Yes. SantoLubes PPE-based formulations are inherently PFAS-free. As PFAS restrictions reach defense and aerospace supply chains, PPE fluids give programs a way to move off fluorinated chemistry without giving up performance.
Can SantoLubes support custom formulations and qualification for defense programs?
Yes. SantoLubes provides samples, Technical Data Sheets, Safety Data Sheets, and application support for evaluation and qualification. Custom formulation, private-label, and contract manufacturing are available through our affiliate, SantoTolling.
