FAQ

Answers to common questions about SantoLubes technologies in elevator and escalator applications.

What lubricants are used in nuclear power plants?

Nuclear plants use radiation-resistant fluids, PPE vacuum fluids, high-temperature specialty fluids, synthetic base stocks, and connector lubricants. SantoLubes covers these with SantoRad™, SantoVac®, ultEbase®, OS-series, and ACCL® technologies.

They use chemistries—such as polyphenyl ether—that resist molecular breakdown from ionizing radiation, maintaining lubricating performance and stability where conventional hydrocarbon fluids would degrade.

SantoVac® PPE fluids offer far lower volatility, higher thermal stability, and greater purity than conventional oils, which supports ultra-high vacuum integrity and long fluid life in sensitive systems.

ultEbase® is a base-stock technology formulated into finished lubricants for bearings and rotating equipment. Final suitability for a nuclear system depends on formulation and qualification requirements.

ACCL® connector lubricants protect instrumentation and control connectors from fretting, corrosion, and insertion damage in radiation and high-temperature environments.

Suitability depends on the specific application and qualification standards. Our technical team can provide product data and support to evaluate requirements for a given system.

PPE fluids are used in nuclear, vacuum technology, aerospace, and other high-temperature or radiation-exposed applications requiring durability, stability, and low volatility.

Contractors, OEMs, component suppliers, consultants, maintenance leaders, and lubricant formulators should request a consultation.
This is especially relevant for teams evaluating lubrication performance in elevator or escalator systems.
